Bus Riding Rules for Gould Transportation Inc.

The right of all students to ride the bus to and from school is conditioned on their good behavior and observance of the rules. Safety demands full cooperation of all riders. Bus drivers will explain all of the rules; failure to follow these rules may  lead to suspension of bus riding privileges at any time. Continued violation of the rules may be grounds for revocation of privileges for the remainder of the year. The following rules and regulations will be followed:

.) Be on time at the designated bus stop. Be ready to board the bus when it arrives at your stop. You wait on the bus, the bus does not wait on you.

.) Stay off the road at all times while waiting for the bus. Do not be horsing around while waiting.

.) Stand at least ten (10) feed away from where the bus will stop. Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching the bus.

.) Be careful in approaching the area where the bus stops. There could be snow, ice, rain, fog or other hazardous conditions.

.) Be watchful for other traffic. Cars have been known to pass the bus on the wrong side of the bus.

.)  Where there is an established loading zone (at school, for instance) do not move toward the bus until the bus has come to a complete stop, the driver has opened the door, and has motioned for you to approach the bus.

.) Keep hands and head inside the bus at all times after boarding.

.) Shouting out the window at passers-by and throwing items out the windows will not be tolerated.

.) Students must avoid unnecessary conversation with the driver.

.) Students must refrain from loud talking, laughing, or screaming, throwing items, grabbing another's possessions, movement from seat-to-seat; all actions are prohibited. This type of activity can divert the driver's attention from driving and can result in a serious accident.

.) Treat the bus equipment as you would treat your own vehicle. Marking, cutting, breaking, and tearing of seats and other parts of the bus cause expensive repairs and could create an accident. Never wear football, baseball or softball cleats on the bus, as they tear up the floors and seats.

.) Never tamper or bother with the bus or any of its controls or equipment.

.) Do not bring any glass containers on the bus.

.) All articles brought on the bus should be kept in a handbag or school bag at all times.

.) No animals, dead or alive, shall be transported on the bus.

.) Do not leave books, paper, packages, coats, lunches, or other items on the bus.

.) Keep all objects out of the aisle and doorways. Do not block the rear exit with any object.

.) Help look after the safety and comfort of smaller children.

.) DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SEAT WHILE THE BUS IS IN MOTION. There is no reason for riders to change seats except by the direction of the driver.

.) When boarding the bus, go immediately to your assigned seat without swinging at or contacting other riders.

.) When exiting the bus, go directly from the bus without swinging or contacting other students.

.) Be courteous to other students and to the bus driver.

.) BE ABSOLUTELY QUIET when the bus is approaching railroad crossings, major intersections, and when the driver asks for quiet.

.) In an emergency, remain in the bus until the driver gives instructions.

.) In an emergency, after leaving the bus, move away from the bus immediately. If you need to cross the road, follow the driver's instruction. Never walk to the outside rear of the bus. Cross in-front of the bus where the driver can see you at all times. Wait to cross when the driver tells you to cross the road.

.) Be alert to problems on the road, and observe signal and emergency instructions from the driver.

.) Do not ask the driver to stop at places other than the regular bus stop. A note from your parents is the only way the driver will let you off at another stop.

.) NO EATING OR DRINKING IS ALLOWED ON THE BUS. THIS INCLUDES CANDY AND CHEWING GUM, UNLESS ADVISED FROM A TEACHER THAT IT IS NECESSARY.

.) The driver is not permitted to double back to retrace the route to pick you up when you are late.

.) There will be no hitting, kicking, slapping, spitting, swearing, cutting seats, breaking windows, water balloons, water bottles, squirt guns, radios, stereos, beepers, tv's and magic markers. All are PROHIBITED.

.) The children are expected to respect the driver as a teacher.

Please remember that these rules are your safety and for the safety of the bus driver. Parents, please go over these rules with your children. We hope you have a great and safe new year.
